About UsOrganization History:With the motto of “Service Through Love” this hospital (Sagayamatha Medical Centre) was started in the year 1961. Moved by the suffering of the villagers in and around Pulllambadi, where Medical facilities were practically non-existent, Rt.Rev,Msgr.Dr.Paul Arulsamy, Bishop of Kumbakonam Diocese, invited the S.M.M.I. Sisters at Kumbakonam to open a dispensary at Pullambadi. He graciously granted 6 acres of church land and financial support for this purpose. Rev.Mother.Marie Francois of Holy Angels’ Convent, Kumbakonam, not only took up the job, but also contributed financial assistance for the establishment of a Dispensary cum Maternity ward. The first structure came up in 1962, in the shape of a road-side medical centre with an out-patient department and 4 beds. This humble beginning has now, developed into a prowling 100 bedded rural hospital. This was solely due to the untiring efforts of the then local parish priest, Rev.Fr.M.Arputham, who was entrusted with the task of developing this hospital by the Diocese. Slowly and steadily with his influence and contacts in Switzerland, Germany and France, Rev.Fr.M.Arputham, succeeded in generating funds to purchase extra land and to erect buildings and infrastructure for the rural hospital which has become an edifice in his own life time. At present this hospital (Sagayamatha Medical Centre) is run by Diocese of Kumbakonam and the Franciscan sisters of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pondicherry are providing able support in implementing various health care activities to achieve the objectives of the society. The road-side Medical Centre which was started in 1962 has taken following definite lines of progress and development.
